The Yorkshire Driving Club Rules
- Its objects being to promote, maintain and encourage members interested in driving of horses and ponies.
- The Club will consist of an unlimited number of members.
- The Committee to consist of President, Vice President, Treasurer and others.
- Each member of the committee after serving three years shall retire. But may offer oneself for re-election.
- A quorum will consist of a minimum of five Committee members.
- Annual subscriptions payable on the 1st October each year. Junior members (under 18 years of age) half subscription rate. Junior members and Social member shall have no voting rights. Any member failing to renew their membership within three months of the due date will be notified by the Treasurer of his arrears. Failure of payment in the following month the membership will cease.

- Membership can be paid by BACS transfer - details can be obtained from Club Secretary or Club Treasurer.
- GDPR Privacy ( Data Protection) The Yorkshire Driving Club will collect from its members names, address, phone number and email address. This information will be used by the Yorkshire Driving Club to communicate with its members by email, phone or post advising them of club activities and to occasionally mail our Yorkshire Driving Club Newsletters.
- New members will serve a six-month probationary period.
- Turnouts to be driven by members only, at all times.
- All horses that are driven with the YDC MUST be 4 years old. Stallions are allowed as long as they are this age and well mannered around other horses and MUST be supervised at all times and NOT left unattended.
- Members whilst attending any of the YDC Drives please make sure drivers and passengers to be attired with safety in mind.
- Children under the age of 14 are not allowed to sit on the driving seat with the driver unless accompanied by another adult (Groom). It is also recommended that Children under 14 years old should wear a hard hat if sitting on the carriage,
- Control and management shall be vested in the committee who shall have power to make byelaws and decide upon all matters of dispute not provided for by these rules.
- In the event of the Club ceasing to exist for any cause, the assets shall be disposed of as directed by the Special General Meeting called for the purpose and shall be to named Charity or Charities.
- If the conduct of any member shall be in the opinion of the Committee be injurious to the interests of the Club, the Committee shall have the right to correct or expel them.
- Any member may withdraw from the Club by giving written notice to the Secretary and in doing so has no further claim on any funds belonging to the Club.
- Never start to Hitch the horse/pony to the carriage without first having fastened the reins to the bridle.
- Never try to back a horse between the shafts that are lying on the ground.
- Never leave the ends of the reins unbuckled in case one should be dropped when you are getting into the carriage or whilst driving.
- Never take the bridle off while the horse is still attached to the carriage, not even when he has a halter under the bridle
- Never allow anyone to sit in the carriage before the driver has taken his place.
- Never when you are the driver leave the carriage before all the passengers have descended.
- Always remember to signal before stopping or turning
- Always let the driver in front know that you are coming past and only when it is safe to do so
- Always take great care when passing another carriage and do so only when you are able to see sufficiently clear road ahead.
- Never drive past another carriage in a fast trot.
- Never drive too close to the carriage in front
- Always pay attention to your horse, especially his ears which may give warning of his alarm at something he has either seen or heard.
- Never allow your attention to be distracted.
- Always carry your whip as it may be needed to avert an accident.
- Never take a completely green horse to an event. First find out how he behaves when being driven in the company of other carriages at home.
- Never allow horses to canter or gallop in harness. Only the most skilled whips should do so
- Never allow uninsured people to drive your horse on a YDC rally.
- The foregoing Rules shall form the basis of membership for the YDC (Yorkshire Driving Club)
