The Yorkshire Driving Club - News

DRIVING SEASON 2017

Dear Members

First Drive - Begining of May

The new driving season is just around the corner, and after reading various comments on facebook we can safely assume that most members can't wait for it to start. We hope you have your fitness preparations started as we have a good varied Driving Schedule for 2017. The face book site will be updated on a regular basis when drives are due. Our Web page (will hopefully behave its self and let us update it this year).

If you are a long standing member of the club, our scheduled drives will be familiar to you.  If you are a more recent member, and have not taken part in a club drive, you may wish to speak to an existing member to find out about what goes on.  Please feel free to phone Debbie or Val (phone numbers are on the Membership page).  Remember that some members choose to set up camp for a full weekend away, others prefer to travel for a single day out either on the Saturday or the Sunday or both.  All members do what suits them the best.  We usually aim to set off on the drives around 1.00 on Saturdays and 12.00 on Sundays.

For further information please visit our website  There is a list of Committee Members on there.  You may wish to phone one of the Committee Members for a chat.  www.yorkshiredrivingclub.co.uk

You can also see us on facebook view Yorkshire Driving Club ,

Good luck with your preparations and we hope to see both 'old' and new faces on as many drives as possible.

Long term members know that this is a lovely driving environment.  The estate is a mixture of farmland and wooded areas with cart tracks and dedicated riding areas.  Other riders will be using the estate, so we need to respect their safety and approach them carefully.  If we need to pass, it is a courtesy to ask first and then pass slowly and carefully. Escrick Estate will get some more gates unlocked for us this year.

If you are camping for the weekend please don’t arrive before MID afternoon on the Friday (5th May)

Reminder to bring your electric fence or tether for your horses/ponies.

Escrick Park have a criteria for us to adhere to :-

  • The estate office has requested that we DO NOT use the Game Keepers toilet facilities.
  • There are no facilities on the park for waste disposal.
  • The YDC have provided a Port-a-Loo for our club members to use.
  • A Muck Trailer will be available.  Please ensure that all horse droppings are cleaned up on a daily basis.
  • Before leaving that ALL horse droppings and hay is cleared up and put in the Trailer and not under trees or in the hedges.
  • Please check your camping area completely before leaving and take all rubbish home with you.
  • There might be sheep on the park so please keep your dogs under control.
  • Close gates behind you.
  • A reminder that we are not allowed to go off site and leave our horses unattended.
  • Also whilst out driving if you go to the Drovers Pub please use the Pub car park and NOT the Chapel car park.

ALLERTON PARK ESTATE   HG5 0SE     -  Bank Holiday Weekend 26th, 27th, 28th & 29th May 2017

This is another stunning venue with mature parkland, lakes, streams, a castle, and if we are lucky, a night firework display from someone's wedding at the castle (We need to make sure all our animals are securred before any fireworks start).  Its always a shock when that first firework errupts.

This year we will be parking at the bottom lake.  Remember not to set up camp in front of any of the cross country fences or the access to them.

Please remember to bring your electric fencing for your horses. Clean up your horses droppings daily please and before leaving to go home please make sure all your hay and horse droppings are cleaned up and taken away with you. Please don't abuse the hospitality here or expect our committee members to clean up after you.

You will need to take all rubbish home as there are no facilities here for disposal.

Please keep all dogs under control and the gates closed.

There are showers on the nearby Caravan site, code available from Debbie.

YDC Signs will be put up on the A59 to follow into the Estate (not A168 entrance)

You can arrive on Friday AFTER lunch not before please. Please contact Steve Wheelwright to advise him of your estimated time of arrival in order that he can be there to greet you and allocate a space for you. Steve Wheelwright's Mobile: 07934 374 041

On arrival and once sorted out please collect a liability form and payment envelope from Debbie or Steve.

On the Friday night (26th May) we have booked a Carvery Meal at the Anchor Inn at Whixley £8.95 per head..  Available from 6.30 to 8.30.  If you want to go, then please would you let Debbie know ASAP so we can advise numbers. The Anchor Inn have a website if you require information (www.anchorinnwhixley.com).

If you decide that you want to have a drive out of the Estate, then there are a few Public Houses that you can call at.  Most close after lunch.

The Punch Bowl in Marton-Cum-Grafton is open all day for refreshments, and until 2.30 for lunch  However, If you are visiting and before moving off site please make sure that the area your vacating is cleaned up (i.e. horse droppings removed and all glasses returned to the bar and any rubbish taken away with you). They have a large car parking area but we have to share it with their regulars. Please do not leave a mess as this is a nice stop over and we would like to go back again.

They do have a website if you want to take a look (www.thepunchbowlmartoncumgrafton.com).

We have ordered the very best of good weather for our driving event so lets hope the weather is good to us.
